In Colorado, a fatal crash on Jan. 7 shut down Colorado 94 and North Peyton Highway in both directions for over three hours, according to the Colorado State Patrol. This crash took place at around 5:00 p.m., a time better known as rush hour.

Investigators at the scene reported that it was around that time when a Dodge truck rear-ended a Toyota Corolla. The driver of the truck, a 38-year-old man from Yoder, was headed east when he failed to slow down in time to avoid the car in front of him. That car, the Corolla, had been driven by a 59-year-old man from Calhan.

The older man had been attempting to turn left onto the northbound lanes, according to the troopers at the scene. Because of the other driver’s failure to yield to the vehicle in front of him, he rear-ended it, causing injuries to the man that later led to his death. The investigators reported that the 59-year-old man had been wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The younger man was also strapped in, but he suffered from minor injuries related to the crash. He was transported to the hospital for treatment. Police have reported that he has been cited for careless driving resulting in death along with driving without proof of insurance in relation to the accident.

In cases like this, if someone who causes the death of your loved one isn’t insured, it can be difficult to get the compensation you deserve. You may need the support of someone familiar with the law to take this situation to the courts, especially since you need time to grieve and be with your family.
