Experienced Guidance Throughout The Probate Process

Sooner or later, everyone faces the death of a parent or other loved one. However, few are prepared for the legal issues that may arise concerning the deceased person’s estate. A consultation with an experienced attorney can help ease the anxiety that comes from this situation as well as make the most efficient use of resources in winding up a person’s estate.

At the law firm of Wick & Trautwein, LLC, our lawyers guide clients through the probate and estate administration process in northern Colorado and southern Wyoming. We represent people who have been named the executor or personal administrator of another person’s estate. We also represent beneficiaries who want us to protect their interests during a probate proceeding.

What Is Probate?

Unlike probate in many other states, Colorado and Wyoming probate does not have to be a cumbersome, lengthy or costly proceeding. Our states offer both formal and informal/simplified probate.

Our attorneys will guide you through the necessary legal steps such as:

  • Submitting the will to the probate court
  • Completing an inventory of the decedent’s estate
  • Publishing required legal notices
  • Paying legitimate bills owed to creditors
  • Distributing assets to beneficiaries who are entitled to receive them
  • Assisting with sale of real estate and other assets
  • Submitting a final accounting of the estate to the probate court

Not all assets need to go through probate. For example, assets held in a trust can be distributed directly to beneficiaries. Assets such as stock accounts and IRAs are distributed by beneficiary designation.

In some situations, there may be disputes between loved ones over matters related to the state. Our lawyers handle will contests and other probate litigation, representing executors, administrators, trustees and beneficiaries.
