Red light accidents common at intersections in Colorado Springs

by | Dec 3, 2014 | Car Accidents

One of the most dangerous types of accidents that anyone can get into is an accident at a red light, where one driver runs the light and slams into the side of the other vehicle. The people in that second car do not have much protection, with little more than the car’s door standing between them.

Of course, it is impossible to predict where a red light accident is going to happen, as these accidents center around human error. They come about when people are speeding, not paying enough attention, and making other mistakes so that the traffic laws are not followed properly. However, though they can’t be predicted, police reports do shed some light on where they are most common.

For example, take a look at these statistics from Colorado Springs:

— 18 percent of the tickets were given out at the intersection of I-25 and South Tejon. — 12 percent of the tickets were given out at the intersection of I-25 and East Woodmen Road. — 11 percent of the tickets were given out at the intersection of I-25 and South Nevada. — 10 percent of the tickets were given out at the intersection of I-25 and West Cimarron Street.

One tactic that was used to help with these accidents was the installation of red light cameras. However, these were later removed because drivers started slamming on their brakes, attempting to stop before getting a ticket, and the amount of rear-end crashes went up.

If you are ever injured when someone else runs through a red light in Fort Collins or anywhere else in Colorado, make sure that you know what legal rights you have to compensation.
