Car hits cyclist in Fort Collins, sending him to the hospital

by | Jun 19, 2014 | Car Accidents

A bicyclist was struck by a car in Fort Collins, Colorado, and had to be transported to the hospital for treatment. This happened in the middle of Wednesday’s commute, at the intersection between southbound Timberline road and westbound Drake road. The clean-up and investigation that closed off lanes caused traffic to become congested along the busy route.

Reports indicate that the crash took place at about 20 minutes after four. Emergency crews responded to the scene and had the bike rider on his way to the hospital by about five o’clock. They took him to the Medical Center of the Rockies, which is located in Loveland.

The full nature of the injuries to the cyclist, including how bad those injuries could be, has not been released. However, it has been said that the injuries were to his head, so there is the potential there for significant damage.

The person who ran into the cyclist in an SUV is just 19 years old, and he is a student who attends Colorado State University. Before the accident, he was on Timberline Road, going south. He was trying to turn right and go onto Drake Road when he crashed into the biker.

Police have not given any further details, such as which way the bike was going, as they are still doing their investigation.

This is an important story because it illustrates just how dangerous car accidents that involve bikes can be. Even though a driver may not be hurt at all, a cyclist can be seriously injured, and riders who are hurt need to be aware of their legal rights for medical compensation.
