Fort Collins runner injured by car driven by careless driver

Drivers who are negligent, distracted, or reckless can wreak havoc on the roadways. Other motorists and pedestrians are at the mercy of drivers who don't obey the laws or pay attention to their driving, as these drivers can cause car accidents that may have life-changing consequences for those involved. Sometimes the accidents and the injuries they cause are minor, but a legal professional may still need to be involved to be sure that any injured party receives compensation for damage, medical bills, or possibly even pain and suffering.

A 50-year-old man and his companion were out for a run in southeast Fort Collins around noon on April 1, 2014. The two were running eastbound on Harmony Road in the roadway's marked bike lane. As they approached the intersection of Harmony and Timberline roads, a car also traveling eastbound swerved and struck the two runners. The 50-year-old was thrown up onto the hood of the car, suffering injuries in the process.

Local law enforcement received a call about the accident at 12:54 p.m. and they immediately rushed to the scene. They discovered the car and its driver in the area and noticed that it had sustained damage to the windshield. Police were unable to determine how fast the car was traveling or why the driver had swerved. The driver was cited for careless driving and released.

The 50-year-old man was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel and then taken to Poudre Valley Hospital. His injuries were reported to be non-life threatening, and he was released from the hospital early that evening.

Whether injuries sustained in an accident are minor or severe, it is never immediately clear whether they will heal completely or cause pain and suffering in the future. Seeking out the advice of an attorney or other legal professional is the best way to ensure that the best interests of any injured party are taken into consideration and the proper legal action is taken.
