Understand pain and suffering damages in car crash cases

by | Aug 31, 2017 | Car Accidents

When you are in a car accident, there are a lot of things that can happen. You could be injured. Your vehicle might be damaged. You have to think about each of these points when you are trying to decide what you are going to do after the crash.

One thing that you might do is to seek compensation for the crash. On top of seeking compensation for the money you lost if you were unable to work and the expenses of medical care, you might also seek compensation for pain and suffering.

It is fairly easy to determine how much money you are out of due to medical bills and missed work; however, you will have to put some work into determining how much money to seek for pain and suffering. Using previously settled or litigated cases might give you the basis for this information. You would have to find a case with similar circumstances.

For example, if you suffered a head injury, you wouldn’t want to rely on a case that included permanent disfigurement. Because pain and suffering damages are so subjective, you must ensure that you have accurate information about your injuries. Not only does this include the diagnosis and prognosis for your case, it also includes having an account of how the injury is impacting your life.

When it comes to letting people know how the injury is impacting your life, keeping a journal might help. You could present the information as a way to show what your life has been like since you were involved in the crash.
