March Madness could lead to more parking lot accidents

by | Mar 8, 2016 | Car Accidents

March Madness is one of the biggest sporting events of the year, so it’s easy to see how much traffic it generates. People travel from all over the country to see the games, the sites change as the tournament progresses—creating even more hours on the road—and those who can’t go to the games flock to sports bars and restaurants to watch the games on TV. Sometimes, local arenas even play the games on the big screen and bring the fans in to watch the teams play.

All of this increases the chances of an accident this spring, especially in a parking lot, as people are coming and going. It’s been said that a high percentage of accidents happen when people are backing up, especially when considering how infrequently that gear is used. Just backing out of a parking lot may be only a fraction of a percentage of the total trip, but it can be the most dangerous because it’s far harder to see what’s around the vehicle. It can also lead to one of the most dangerous accidents, which is the pedestrian accident.

There’s another element that has to be considered when it comes to March Madness, and that’s the overall atmosphere of excitement, along with the consumption of alcohol at sports bars and arenas. These things can make accidents all the more likely when there are tens of thousands of people all packed into the same area.

If you go out to enjoy March Madness and you’re injured in an accident, it’s important to know what rights you have to seek compensation in Colorado. Be aware of the dangers and how to protect yourself so that you can enjoy this well-loved event.
