2 injured, 1 killed in Pueblo crash at local intersection

by | Jul 10, 2015 | Car Accidents

Crashes can happen at any time, but many happen at intersections. This is because with lights changing, a distracted driver may not notice a green light turn to red or that the cars in front of them have slowed to a stop. That’s potentially what happened in this crash that left at least two injured and caused one fatality.

One person was recently killed and another two people were injured in what was likely a preventable accident. News out of Pueblo, Colorado, reported that a two-vehicle accident resulted in one person, the passenger of the allegedly at-fault vehicle, being killed, and one person, a passenger in the other vehicle, having to be taken to the hospital for treatment.

The accident took place on Colorado 45 at around 8:15 a.m., when a 2008 Pontiac struck a 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck from behind. The rear-end collision took place shortly after the light had turned green, suggesting that the Pontiac had not slowed down for the previously stopped traffic.

The driver of the Pontiac, a 28-year-old woman from Monte Vista, had continued south through the intersection after the crash and stopped on the left shoulder. The Chevrolet stopped on the right shoulder. The driver of the Pontiac was belted in and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment, but her 59-year-old passenger was not wearing a seat belt when the accident took place. She passed away at the scene.

The 34-year-old driver of the 2004 Chevrolet was not treated for injuries, but his 29-year-old passenger had to be hospitalized. While speed and alcohol have not been cited in the crash, police have reported that a distraction may have been the cause of the accident.
